The roots of the internet go back to the 1960s, as the predecessor Arpanet had been founded in ’69 by the US Department of Defense. Later it opened up for further groups. Early adopters had been universities to allow their professors and students to communicate with other faculties. Only in the middle of the 90s started the commercialization of the web. After the connection of humans, the Internet of Things wants to achieve now the same for machines, devices and equipment.
