Backstage: Targa Florio 1972

For my book “Compliance is a Race Car.” I compared the different parts of such a vehicle with the the various aspects of an effective Ethics & Compliance system. Communication is imperative, in motor-sports and also inside a corporate organization

Before the Sicilian 1972 Targa Florio, the team managers from Ferrari, Cesare Fiorio, and Alfa Romeo, Carlo Chiti, discovered the advantages of the radio-technology to have a, still limited, contact with their drivers. Based on this, the event became the first automobile race to use radio. Still a basic one-way communication, as the drivers could only listen, but not respond to the messages. Nevertheless it became the beginning of a development, where later two-way communication became possible, not only with the driver but also the car itself.

As it is a travel back into a different time, I was happy to find this unique documentation on YouTube. Hope you enjoy it!
